✓ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Flexible treatment schedules designed to fit work, school, and family commitments
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) options
  • Same evidence-based therapies as inpatient care, delivered in outpatient settings
  • Ideal for first-time patients with mild-moderate addiction or those stepping down from inpatient
  • Telehealth options available—receive treatment from home when necessary

Addiction treatment shouldn’t require you to abandon your life. If you have a stable living situation, reliable support system, and mild-to-moderate substance use disorder, our outpatient programs allow you to recover while maintaining employment, caring for family, and attending school. We provide the clinical structure of inpatient treatment—just with more flexibility.

Who Benefits from Outpatient Treatment?

Outpatient rehab is effective for people who:

  • Recently completed inpatient treatment and need step-down support
  • Struggle with cocaine, methamphetamine, or marijuana addiction (don’t require medical detox)
  • Have a strong family or community support system at home
  • Need to maintain employment or continue school during recovery
  • Have tried inpatient treatment before and want to apply those skills in a real-world setting
  • Have mild-to-moderate addiction without severe medical complications

Our Outpatient Programs: PHP vs. IOP

We offer two primary outpatient levels of care, each tailored to different recovery needs:

Feature Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
Schedule 6 hours/day, Monday–Friday (25–30 hours/week) 3-hour sessions, M/W/F mornings (9 a.m.–noon)
Intensity For those with significant vulnerability to relapse For employed individuals with stable housing
Therapy Types Individual + group therapy + psychiatric care Individual + group therapy + case management

What Happens in Outpatient Treatment?

Individual Therapy

Weekly one-on-one sessions with your assigned therapist. You’ll work through triggers, cravings, relationship issues, and develop a personalized relapse prevention plan.

Group Therapy

Evidence shows peer support is crucial for recovery. You’ll participate in process groups and addiction-focused group discussions with people at similar stages of recovery.

Family Sessions

If appropriate and agreed upon, family members can attend sessions to repair relationships, set healthy boundaries, and understand addiction as a disease.

Psychiatric Care

For those with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or bipolar disorder, our psychiatrists provide medication management and specialized treatment.

Skills Training

Learn practical coping tools for managing stress, anger, cravings, and high-risk situations without substances.

12-Step & Secular Groups

We facilitate connections to Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, SMART Recovery, and other mutual support groups.

Payment & Insurance

Most insurance plans cover outpatient addiction treatment. We accept Aetna, Cigna, Ambetter, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, and many others. We also offer financing plans if you’re uninsured.

Paying for Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Paying for outpatient addiction treatment should not be a deterrent to getting the help you deserve. There are several ways to pay for rehab.

Using Insurance to Pay for Outpatient Rehab

If you have health insurance coverage, most plans cover outpatient rehab for substance use treatment at some level. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equality Act (MHPAEA) require health insurance companies to provide equal coverage levels for mental health and substance use disorder benefits as medical or surgical benefits.5

If you do not have health insurance or your plan does not cover treatment at Desert Hope in Las Vegas, there are other ways to pay for rehab.

Other Ways to Pay for Outpatient Treatment

There are several options available for covering the costs of outpatient treatment, including:

Financing Options

Many healthcare facilities offer financing plans that allow patients to spread the cost of treatment over time, making it more manageable. These plans often come with varying interest rates, so it’s essential to review the terms carefully and choose one that fits your financial situation.

Family Support

Reaching out to family and friends for financial assistance can be a crucial factor in navigating the costs associated with outpatient treatment. Loved ones may be willing to help, whether through direct monetary support or by offering to cover certain expenses, which can alleviate some of the financial burden.

Out-of-Pocket Payments

Some individuals may choose to pay for their outpatient treatment directly out-of-pocket. This option can provide more straightforward and immediate access to care; however, it requires having sufficient funds available upfront. It’s important to consider all associated costs, including potential follow-up sessions and medications, when opting for this route.
